The Government of India Is Hiring. Private Sector Professionals Can Apply Too

‘The Government of India invites talented and motivated Indian nationals willing to contribute towards nation building to join the government at the level of Joint Secretary,’ a circular issued by the Department of Personnel and Training said.

In a first, the government of India has opened ten vacancies for the joint secretary level post. Applicants working in the private sector are welcome to apply for the same – a step referred as lateral recruitment specifically for senior positions in the government.

The openings of joint secretaries are critical for the government as they are involved in the policy-making and implementation.

As mentioned in a newspaper advertisement, the government is looking to hire candidates with expertise in areas of revenue, financial services, economic affairs, agriculture, cooperation and farmers’ welfare, road transport and highway, shipping, environment, forests and climate change, new and renewable energy, civil aviation and commerce.

Opening for joint secretaries

Eligibility Criteria:
Age – 40
Education: Bachelors degree from a recognised university
At least 15 years of work experience

The hiring will be on a contractual basis for three years from the date of joining and will be extendable.

Through this step of lateral recruitment, the government is looking to recruit people working in the private sector especially consultancy firms and MNCs. Professionals working with public sector undertakings, autonomous bodies, statutory organisations, universities, recognised research institutes are eligible too.
